Desmond Mabuza trained as a civil engineer in the USA, but after a few years, abandoned the practice and invested his money into fine dining.

He opened his first restaurant in 2001 (at age 28) and currently owns two remarkably profitable and iconic eateries – Signature and Wall Street – both situated in Johannesburg.
